College of Environmental Science and Engineering

The College of Environmental Science and Engineering has under its administration Department of Environmental Engineering, Department of Water Supply & Drainage and Engineering, Department of Architectural Environment and Energy Application Engineering, the Experimental Center, and the Environmental Impact Assessment Center. The College offers undergraduate programs in Environmental Engineering, Water Supply & Drainage Science and Engineering, and Architectural Environment and Energy application Engineering.

The Environmental Engineering Program was established in 1984 while the rest 2 dates back to 1958, making the College one of the earliest civil engineering colleges nationwide. The College is qualified to confer doctoral degrees in Environmental Engineering, master's degrees in tier-1 disciplines of Environmental Science and Engineering (namely Environmental Engineering, and Environmental Science), and master’s degrees in Municipal Engineering and in HVAC Engineering. It also boasts a post-doc station for the study of environmental science and technology. In particular, Environmental Engineering distinguishes itself as a key discipline and a signature major in universities and colleges of Shanxi Province, and Municipal Engineering is marked as special offering at the Shanxi Provincial Engineering Graduate Education Innovation Center. The College enjoys a strong 84-member staff team and a 75-member faculty (including 10 professors, 27 associate professors and 37 lecturers), 3 doctoral supervisors and 39 master’s supervisors. In addition, it boasts a dynamic student body of more than 1100 undergraduates, 200 master students and more than 20 doctoral students. Therefore, the College has put in place a full-fledged teaching and research system incorporating doctoral students, masters and undergraduates.

 

In recent years, faculty members at the College have taken advantage of their professional strength to carry out R & D projects in such fields as environmental pollution control, municipal utilities, renewable energy use and building energy conservation to serve the needs of national and provincial economic development. As a result, 5 major research teams have come to the fore, focusing on the 5 areas of water pollution control and conversion of pollutants into resources and energy, water environment and urban water supply security, analysis and control of air pollutants, HVAC new technology and renewable energy use, and environmental materials preparation and application. Apart from undertaking many NNSF projects, key projects with major national support, national environmental protection projects, the Sino-Japanese CDM Project and more than 100 provincial and ministerial level research projects, the College has also raised a host of innovative theoretical insights and created a batch of new technologies, with quite a few researches topping the country. Meanwhile, the College has cultivated a large number of senior engineering professionals and technical personnel with innovation awareness and research capabilities, making tremendous contributions to the national energy conservation and environmental protection as well as the local economic development.

Environmental Engineering

Cultivation Goals: The professional training to meet the social development of environmental protection needs, with practical ability, innovation awareness, good professionalism, strong sense of social responsibility and sustainable development, the system of water, gas, solid and physical pollution control and environmental planning, management and other environmental engineering basic theory and professional knowledge, have engaged in pollution control engineering design and operation and management capabilities, environmental monitoring and planning management capabilities and environmental engineering aspects of new technology and new equipment research and development capabilities, to utilize those technology in the relevant environmental companies, design consulting units, industrial and mining enterprises, government environmental management departments, scientific research units, serving as the environmental engineering disciplines senior engineering and technical personnel.

Cultivation Requirements:The professional requires students to use the mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics and other basic knowledge of the natural science for the analysis and resolution of environmental engineering in the field of complex engineering problems; to using the related basic knowledge about environmental engineering for pollution prevention and control, the environment Planning and resource protection, and can analyze and evaluate the impact of design programmes of social, health, safety, law and culture; can be based on scientific principles and methods, using modern science and technology for experimental research, forecasting, simulation and optimization of pollution prevention and control of process and technology to solve complex engineering problems in the environmental protection practice; can be based on scientific principles and methods, the use of modern scientific and technological means of experimental research, prediction, simulation and optimization of pollution prevention and control technology and technology to solve the environmental protection practice of complex engineering problems; and using the method of engineering management and economic decision-making to design, operate and manage environmental pollution prevention and control engineering, and evaluating its impact on environmental and social sustainable development; with humanities and social sciences, social responsibility, the students in engineering practice to understand and abide by the project professional ethics and regulations , and to perform the responsibility; in a multi-disciplinary, one can take on the role of individuals, team member and principals; be able to communicate effectively with industry peers and social public, and have a certain international vision; under the background of cross-cultural, one can communication and exchange effectively, with independent learning and lifelong learning awareness, with continuous learning and adapt to the development of the ability to keep abreast of the latest environmental engineering professional theory, technology and international frontier dynamic.

Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering

Cultivation Goals: The professional training students to become a good moral character, social morality and professional ethics, better natural science foundation, professional basis and professional theoretical knowledge, and has a level of humanities and social knowledge and literacy, mastery of drainage science and engineering Domain basic theory and technical knowledge. Trained by the basic research, applied research theory and professional skills of basic training, the students will with a certain scientific literacy of the composite engineering and technical personnel. After graduation, students will be able to plan, design, construct, operate and operate water supply and drainage works in this sustainable social cycle of water resources utilization, purification, distribution, use and sewage (waste) water collection, treatment or recycling management, and research and development work capacity, and able to competent to the drainage science and engineering, environmental protection and other fields of engineering and management work.

Construction Environment and Energy Application Engineering

Cultivation Goals: The graduates should have a good political awareness, correct view of science world and life ,and a strong sense of social responsibility; should have basic theoretical knowledge and professional knowledge of engaging in technical work of building environment control and energy supply systems and construction facilities intelligent engineering;should understand and correctly apply the design specifications and standards for engineering design,and have a comprehensive analysis capacity to solve practical engineering problems. Graduates can do the job of building environment and energy application in engineering management, planning, design, technical consultation ,equipment research , development and manufacturing, tender and procurement consulting, construction guidance and supervision, project operation and management in the administrative departments, design institutes, engineering construction companies, equipment manufacturing enterprises, operating companies, green buildings and energy conservation consulting firms, be the comprehensive programme and technology talents.
