College of Hydro Science and Engineering

Water is a necessity of life for human beings. Water resources serve as basis for the surge of national economy. And water conservancy represents the lifeline of the survival of mankind and development of a country. The College of Hydraulic Science and Engineering is the cradle for senior management and technological talents of water conservancy. It is divided into 3 departments of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Agricultural Water Conservancy and Irrigation Engineering, and Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, and 1 Hydraulic Engineering Experimental Center. The College now has a postdoctoral research center for engineering discipline, a first-level-discipline doctorate deferring program of hydraulic engineering, a first-level-discipline master’s degree deferring program of hydraulic engineering (including such second-level disciplines as hydraulics and river dynamics, water conservancy and hydropower engineering, hydraulic structure, hydrology and water resources, and port, coast and offshore engineering). There are now 63 teachers and administrative staff in the College, including 10 professors, 18 associate professors, 3 senior lab technicians, among whom 37 have a doctorate and 18 master’s degree. Relied on our outstanding faculty and research outcomes for years, we have cultivated a great number of engineering and technological elites for the national economic construction. Over the past 3 years, the College has undertaken over 60 provincial, ministerial and national scientific projects, released more than 100 papers on national publications, and published 17 monographs. In recent years, the enrollment rate of senior students who take part in the postgraduate entrance examination is over 30%, and the employment rate more than 90%.

Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering

Cultivation Goals:Graduates of this major are expected to be excellent engineering and technical talents that have the basic theories and knowledge of modern water resources and hydropower engineering, and be capable of survey, design, construction, management and scientific research of medium- and large-sized water conservancy and hydropower complexes and related hydraulic structures in government administrative and planning departments, water conservancy and hydropower engineering design and development departments, and scientific research departments.

Cultivation Requirements:Students should know the basic theories and knowledge of mathematics, mechanics and architectural structures necessary for water conservancy and hydropower engineering, get the basic training of engineering design methods, construction management and scientific research methods, and have the basic abilities of hydropower engineering survey, planning, design, construction, scientific research and management.

Major Courses: engineering mechanics, hydraulics, reinforced concrete structure, hydraulic and hydroelectric planning, hydropower station structure, hydraulic structure, construction for hydraulic works

Main Practice Teaching Links: engineering surveying, geology, computer application practice, cognition practice, production practice, curriculum design, and graduation project (dissertation).

Agricultural Water Conservancy Project

Cultivation Goals:The College aims to cultivate advanced technology talents with basic theory of modern water conservancy and agricultural water conservancy engineering and related disciplines who can engage investigation, construction, management and scientific research in the government departments, planning departments, water conservancy engineering design and development and scientific research departments.

Cultivation Requirements: The students mainly study the basic theory and basic knowledge of mathematics, mechanics, building structure and water conservancy information technology necessary for the construction of water conservancy and agricultural water conservancy projects so that students can obtain the basic training of the necessary engineering design methods, construction management methods and scientific research methods and have the basic ability of water supply engineering, irrigation and drainage engineering, water conservancy informatization engineering survey, planning, design, construction, scientific research and automatic management technology.

Major Courses: engineering mechanics, hydraulics, reinforced concrete structures, water conservancy project planning, water supply engineering theory and technology, computer network technology, hydraulic buildings, water conservancy construction, farmland water conservancy projects,etc.

Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering

Cultivation Goals: The College aims to cultivate advanced engineering and managing talents with professional knowledge and basic theory of hydrology and water resources, water and geological environment and other aspects who can engage in the investigation, design, planning, management, technology development, scientific research in water conservancy, transportation, municipal, construction, railway, environmental protection, agriculture, earthquake, coal, metallurgy, oil and gas and other departments.

Cultivation Requirements: The courses of students are divided into two main aspects, one is based on the basic theory of earth science, groundwater as the main research object and takes into account the surface water, geotechnical engineering and environmental engineering groundwater direction; the second is based on the basic theory hydrology, surface water as the main research object and takes into account the groundwater and ecological and environmental engineering surface water direction. The students of this major will have fundamental training of professional field investigation, survey and test, as well as engineering drawing, computer simulation, laboratory experiments and other aspects of basic training.The students should also possess basic ability to solve practical problems, scientific research, organizational management by applying professional knowledge.

Major Courses: hydraulics, principles of hydrology, river dynamics, hydrological forecasting, hydrological analysis and water conservancy calculation, geology foundation, hydrological address base, groundwater dynamics, water environment chemistry, soil mechanics, engineering mechanics, water resources engineering survey, development and utilization of water resources, control and restoration technology of water pollution.
