College of Information Engineering

The College of Information Engineering has two departments and one center, that is, the Department of Automation, Department of Electronics and Information Technical Trial Center. At present, there are six undergraduate majors, including automation, electronic information engineering, communication engineering, measurement and control technology and equipment, electronic science and technology and transportation equipment and control engineering. Among them, automation and electronic information engineering are famous specialties in Shanxi Province, and electronic information engineering is characteristic specialty in Shanxi Province.

The first-class discipline of Electronic Science and Technology can confer the Doctor’s degree, and has post-doctorate position. The Discipline contains four second-class disciplines, including circuit and system, physical electronics, microelectronics and solid electronics, electromagnetic fields and microwave technology, and independent second-class doctoral points - intelligent perception and control. Among them, circuit and system discipline is the key discipline in Shanxi Province.Information and communication engineering, control science and engineering disciplines can confer master degree, and electronics and communication engineering, control engineering confer an engineering master degree.

The College with qualified teachers has a long history. At present, the College has total staff of 118, and among them, 89 teachers, 15 professors which accounts for 17, 41 associate professors having 46, 36 lecturers accounting for 40%, and teachers who have doctoral degree taking a ratio of 50%. There are 29 management and experimental teaching staff.. In College,there are one double-employment academician, 15 distinguished experts of Hundred -Talents Program in Shanxi province, 5 provincial teaching teachers.The College set up 181 scientific research projects and funds reach to 46 million yuan during the 12th Five-Year-Plan. At present, there are 21 national researching projects (include two "863" projects, one project of Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Team, 18 National Natural Science Fund ), and 55 provincial and ministerial projects, one project which won the National Science and Technology Progress Award ,and 9 projects of provincial ministerial awards. In addition, one project was awarded to be innovative team in key areas of MOST. It also undertakes 11 provincial and school-level education projects, 1 project which won the prestigious national award and more than 10 awards of provincial education. Moreover, it publishes 24 textbooks of the 11th Five-Year National Program, and 2 textbooks of the Twelve- Five planning.

At present, the total amount of undergraduates is more than 1,500, and there are nearly 400 doctoral and master graduate students. With advanced experimental teaching equipments and stable experimental practice teaching bases, it can make students innovative and strengthen engineering ability. Students' science and technology practice activities are an important feature of the College of Information Engineering. The College has a student Seed Program, which selects qualified teachers to guide outstanding students to study and practice the science and technology. There are multitudes of students participating in all sorts of  competitions, such as the National College Students Electronic Design Competition, the National Graduate Electronic Design Competition, the National University of Freescale Cup smart car competition, Siemens Cup Industrial Automation Challenge, the National Institute of Internet of Things application innovation contest, Delta cross-strait university automation design Competition, National University of Science and Technology Innovation Competition Entrepreneurship Competition, China Robot Competition and RoboCup Open, the National Mathematical Contest in Mathematical Contest, and the National College English Competition and other events, winning 118 State Prizes,255 provincial awards. With excellent performance , a large number of students obtain national scholarships, national inspirational scholarships, principals scholarships, outstanding student scholarships, Taipei Shanxi Culture and Education Foundation Jincai scholarships, Sun Yueqi Science and Technology Education Foundation scholarships, provincial lottery public welfare program, Zhao Zongfu Foundation Scholarships, Hing Dafang Scholarships, Toyota Grants, New Great Wall Self-help Scholarships, Meissenius Scholarships, Viktor Scholarships (selected only at the College of Information Engineering), Chang Shun Scholarships and so on. It trains a large number of talents for our nation,and is praised by society and enterprises.

Automation

Cultivation Goals: Students should master basic theory of natural science and a certain degree of economic management knowledge to engage in Automation Engineering, be innovative and can use modern information technology to obtain new knowledge. In addition, they should have quality of humanistic social science, social responsibility, engineering ethics,a certain degree of organization and management and teamwork ability, and have international perspectives and the capacity of lifelong learning to adapt to social development. Moreover, they can research and solve problems of automation engineering using engineering base and professional basic theoretical knowledge , design experiments and analyse results concerning automation engineering, and carry out automation systems and engineering design, implementation and maintenance. After graduation, students can be engaged in senior technical works, such as researching theory related to automation engineering, automation equipment and system development, engineering design and system operation and maintenance.

Cultivation Requirements:Graduates should master basic theoretical knowledge, including electric and electronic, automatic control, information processing, computer control and automatic detection, basic methods and skills of motor driving system and the design, research, commission, operation of the production process automation system , and the capacity to apply computers to control industrial automation systems.

Electronic Information Engineering

Cultivation Goals: The students in this major own basic theory of natural science knowledge required in electronic information engineering and a certain degree of economic management knowledge, with innovative awareness. They are capable to utilize modern information technology to obtain new knowledge, new technology and other information in the field. Meanwhile, they possess the quality of humanities and social sciences, a sense of social responsibility and engineering ethics and a certain degree of organization and management and teamwork ability, equipped with international vision and lifelong learning to adapt to social development. They can use the fundamentals of engineering and basic professional knowledge to study and resolve engineering problems in the field of electronic information. The students are able to carry out experimental design and experimental results analysis for electronic information engineering problems, and can carry out design, implementation and maintenance of electronic information systems and engineering. After graduation, students can be engaged in theoretical research, electronic information equipment and system development, engineering design and implementation as well as advanced engineering and technical work of system operation and maintenance of related to electronic information engineering.

Cultivation Requirements: The students in this major should have a solid foundation of electronic circuits, mathematics and other natural sciences, a better basis of humanities and social science as well as strong foreign language comprehensive utilization ability;they should master the basic theory and knowledge of electronic information engineering disciplines such as information access, processing and transmission, grasp the design and testing methods of analog, digital, high and low frequency electronic circuit, and be equipped with development, design, engineering application and development capabilities concerning modern electronic information systems and electronic device.

Major Courses: fundamentals of circuits, analog electronic technology, high-frequency electronic circuit, digital circuit logic design, signal and system, microcomputer principle and interface technology, fundamentals of programming, digital signal processing, single-chip principle, electromagnetic field and electromagnetic wave, microwave technology and antenna, CPLD / FPGA application design, communication and network, audio and video and multimedia and other courses.

Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments

Cultivation Goals: The professional cultivates talents with many characteristics and abilities,including: master the basic theoretical knowledge of natural science and certain economic management knowledge, and innovative awareness, use modern information technology to obtain new knowledge , new technology and other information in the field.The students should be with humanities and social sciences, social responsibility and engineering ethics and a certain degree of organization and management and teamwork ability and be with international vision and lifelong learning to adapt to social development. They can also use engineering basic and professional basic theoretical knowledge to study and solve the problems of measurement and control engineering, who are equipped with the ability of collaborative designing in software and hardware and electronic information and instrument system integration design capabilities. The experimental design and experimental results can be analyzed for the engineering problems in the field of measurement and control and they should design, implement and maintain the control system, instrument and control engineering. After graduation, students can be engaged in some engineering and technical work, such as research and control technology and equipment related to the theoretical research, monitoring and control equipment and system development, engineering design and operation and maintenance of the system.

Cultivation Requirements: The students of this major should have the basic knowledge of instruments and electronics, detection technology and control theory , good human and social science base and foreign language comprehensive utilization ability; mastering the fundamental skills and methods of the design,research,debug and maintenance of measurement and control system.The students should also accept basic training of modern monitoring and application of the instruments, with the ability of measurement and control technology and instrumentation system design and development.

Communication Engineering

Cultivation Goals: The students of this major should have the basic knowledge of natural science and a certain degree of economic management knowledge to engage in communication engineering and have innovative awareness; theycan use modern information technology to obtain new knowledge, new technology and other information in the field, with humanities social science literacy, social responsibility and engineering ethics and a certain degree of organization and management and teamwork ability, with international vision and lifelong learning to adapt to social development. They can use engineering base and professional basic theoretical knowledge to study and solve the problem of communication engineering, can carry out experimental design and experimental results analysis for communication engineering problems, and can carry out communication system and engineering design, implementation and maintenance. After graduation, students can engage in theoretical research related to communication engineering, communication equipment and system development, engineering design and implementation of the system operation and maintenance of innovative engineering and technical work.

Electronic Science and Technology

Cultivation Goals: The professional development of electronic science and technology with natural science base and professional knowledge; with the basic knowledge of engineering and professional basic theory to solve practical engineering problems; with the use of modern information technology to acquire new knowledge in the field, the ability of new technologies. They should have a certain international vision, innovative spirit and team awareness; they should be with humanities and social sciences, social responsibility and engineering ethics; they should have a certain organization and management and interpersonal skills; they should have the awareness of lifelong learning to adapt to social development; Technology, electronic materials and components, electronic information and other related fields engaged in electronic materials, components, integrated circuits, integrated electronic systems (micro-nano devices, micro-electromechanical systems, large-scale integrated circuits and electronic information system chips, etc.) , manufacturing and the corresponding new products, new technologies, new technology research, development and other works of engineering and technical personnel.

Transportation Equipment and Control Engineering
