TYUT and the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus Promote Chinese to be Included in the Jamaican National Translation Competition

    Under the joint promotion of TYUT and the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus), Chinese was included for the first time in the National Translation Competition organized by the Jamaica Association of Interpreters and Translators.



    On November 7 local time, the second Jamaica Translation Competition Award Ceremony, organized by the Jamaica Association of Interpreters and Translators, was held online. The Jamaica Association of Interpreters and Translators invited representatives from embassies, language institutions, sponsors of relevant countries. There are six languages included in this translation competition, namely English, Jamaican, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese. The teachers from the Confucius Institute jointly established by TYUT and the University of West Indies participated in the organization of Chinese-related competitions and the online awards ceremony.



    Dr. Feng Lei, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Mona Campus, was invited to attend the award ceremony and delivered a speech. He expressed his gratitude to the organizer and congratulated the winners.


   He pointed out that the translation between Chinese and English is helpful for the cultural exchange and mutual understanding between China and Jamaica. While providing Chinese teaching for local people, the Confucius Institute also strongly supports translation practice and research between Chinese and English.
