College of Art

The art disciplines of Taiyuan University of Technology College of Art stems from the arts and crafts that opened in 1964. Adhering to the school philosophy of "resources integration, culture heritage, people-orientation,factualism and innovation", the college insists on personnel training, artistic creation and humanistic research. Based in Shanxi and facing the country, it tries to build a national first-class art academy and the center of art creation and research in Shanxi Province with the high quality resources of "211 Project" Universities.

For now, there are 1816 undergraduates and 66 postgraduates; 85% teachers holding master's degree or doctoral degree; famous experts and scholars at home and abroad like Wei Daoru, Zhang Qiman, Luo Shiping, Yi Ying, Shenggang Chongfu and others are invited as guest professors to set up a full-time and part-time combining teachers team with high quality and high level .

Four departments exist in the Art College of Taiyuan University of Technology, namely: art, design, film and television and art theory, including nine undergraduate majors of painting, arts and crafts, environmental design, visual communication design, digital media art, animation, film and television photography, cultural relics protection technology and cultural industry management. With the grant of master's degree in design art, the college forms a complete talent training system.

According to the talent training objectives of "thick foundation, wide caliber, high-quality, strong professional", the college strives to explore and build a innovative art talent training model in a comprehensive university, and signs a creative research and practice cooperation agreement with Shanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, Shanxi Province Arts and Crafts Association, China Packaging Federation, China Film Group and other relevant agencies and units.

In 2009, Design Art Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center was approved as a national experimental teaching demonstration center by the Ministry of Education , thus it has been a national first-class art experimental practice teaching sites. Moreover, its personnel training quality has been improved greatly.

Design Art of the college is a provincial key construction discipline. Art Heritage Research Center is chosen as the key research center for humanities social science by Shanxi Province. Shanxi cultural heritage protection and repair collaborative innovation center is listed as Shanxi University collaborative innovation and training base. Shanxi Province Art Design Graduate Education Innovation Center, Shanxi Province Arts and Crafts R & D base of scientific research institutions and platforms are also included in the college.

Academic freedom and innovation are encouraged by the college and equal attention is paid to both art research and artistic creation. Over the past five years, the college teachers have presided over 91 scientific research projects, including 2 national projects and 46 provincial projects; have published 179 papers, of which 16 are released by core journals and 23 high-level papers by CSSCI; have published 6 works and have compiled 6 teaching materials; have participated in art exhibition for 330 times, of which 101 works were awarded in the national exhibition and have won the National Art Exhibition and other national, provincial and ministerial awards 89; in 2015, 6 works were selected for the Twelfth National Art Exhibition, among which the college dean, Professor Zhao Hui led a team to join the four school public welfare design project of "cave excavation design of the west", and win the only gold award for design of twelfth National Art Exhibition.

College attaches great importance to social practice as well as promotion and implementation of applied artistic achievement. It takes an active part in construction of local cities and building of enterprises culture and famous brands. A wide range of social cooperation not only serves to local economic and cultural construction, but also provides various practical opportunities for teachers and students at the same time. As a result, their imagination, creativity and performance of art are praised by the industry and are accepted by the society, thus shaping a good social reputation.

College also pays abundant attention to cooperation and exchanges with domestic and foreign art institutions and related institutions, forming a trustworthy mechanism for academic exchange, personnel training and cooperative research. Each year, a number of well-known experts and artists at home and abroad are invited to give lectures and performances in the college. It has established academic exchange and cooperative research relationship with many well-known colleges and universities in the United States, Britain, South Korea and other countries. Moreover, it sets up a "International Undergraduate Academic Mutual Recognition Course (ISEC) project", through which it forms international cooperation with more than 10 universities covering the United States and Europe.

【Environmental Design】

Cultivation Goals:The students of this major are educated into high quality professionals adapting to national, regional and industrial economic construction and social development needs, with well humanities and social sciences literacy, environmental design ethics and modern design ideas, mastering the basic theory of environmental design, design thinking and methods, with innovative and Design and practical ability, capable of working in the environmental design related agencies, institutions and research institutions and taking up interior design, landscape design, furniture and furnishings design and other types of design, teaching, project planning and management work or using professional expertise to be self-employed.

Cultivation Requirements:In terms of basic quality, the profession requires students with good human and social science literacy, well professional ethics and artistic accomplishment, with a broad international perspective and a keen awareness of the times, with sense of competition and collaborative ability required by environmental design work, with capability of independent learning, lifelong learning as well as awareness and ability of adapting to the development. In terms of professional skills, students are required to master the basic theoretical knowledge of environmental design, design thinking and design methods, be capable of improved design and innovative design for indoor and outdoor space and other related products, master hand-painted performance, computer-aided performance, performance and other performance skills, master the indoor and outdoor environmental design-related materials, structure, technology, budget and other knowledge and skills, familiar with the project operation process.

Cultivation Goals: The students of this major are educated into high quality professionals adapting to national, regional and industrial economic construction and social development needs, with well humanities and social sciences literacy as well as professional ethics and visual aesthetic judgments; mastering visual traditional graphic and modern media communication basic knowledge, with steady design thinking, presentation, communication and management power; with creative design capabilities centered on business concepts, and creative capabilities to explore new solutions in conjunction with business and social needs; capable of working in design, education, research and management agencies related to visual communication design, taking up graphic design, packaging and binding design, creative product design and media communication and other types of work or using professional expertise to be self-employed.

Cultivation Goals: The students of this major are educated into high quality professionals mastering the basic theory of film and television photography as well as methods and skills on film and television photography, film and television lighting and film production; capable of using film and television equipment as well as  post-editing and equipment producing, with good professional ethics , audio-visual thinking and the basic qualities of professional photographers, have a good scientific and cultural and theoretical literacy, adapting to national, regional and industry development needs; capable of working in the field of film and television shooting and producing, taking up planning, scene design, lighting and scenery structures, photography , editing, film and television special effects, program packaging and other related work; capable of independent creation in the domain of film and television and other related industries.
