College of Economics and Management

The College of Economics and Management involves two major disciplines of Economics and Management. It currently has four departments, including the Department of Accounting, the Department of Economics and Trade, the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Management Science, and it includes seven undergraduate programs of Construction Management, Marketing, Logistics Management, Accounting, International Economics and Trade, Electronic Commerce and Energy Economics (the undergraduate programs of Marketing and Construction Management also enroll non-management major students of this university for a second bachelor degree). The college has one first-class discipline which offers doctoral degree of Management Science and Engineering, five programs offer academic master’s degree of Management Science and Engineering, Business Management, Technology Economics and Management, Accounting and Statistics, and three programs offer professional master’s degree of Industrial Engineering, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc). It has five institutes, including the “Scientific Development Research Center of the Coal Industry in Shanxi Province”, which is a key research institute of Humanities and Social Science at universities of Shanxi Province. The College now has 103 faculty members, including 13 professors, 23 associate professors, 9 doctoral advisors, and 43 master advisors. Now it has about 2000 registered undergraduate students and graduate students. A multi-level, interdisciplinary, research-based and application oriented talents cultivating mode has been formed, which focuses on the undergraduate education and combine with undergraduate, doctor education, as well as double-degree and major-minor system, thus, it has laid a solid foundation for the cultivation of high quality talents with all-round development of morality, intellect and physique.

【Marketing】

Cultivation Goals:To cultivate senior compound elite who familiar with knowledge of management, economics, law and other aspects of knowledge; master the ability to engage in marketing in enterprises, institutions and government; master the ability to occupy teaching and research work in the discipline of business management.

Cultivation Requirements:Master the basic theory and knowledge of marketing and business management; receive basic training in marketing methods and skills; have the basic ability to analyze and resolve problems in marketing.

Major Courses:management, microeconomics, macroeconomics, management information system, statistics, accounting, financial management, marketing, economic law, consumer behavior, international marketing, marketing research and forecasting.

【Engineering Management】

Cultivation Goals:To have a basic knowledge of management, economics and engineering technology; master the basic knowledge of modern management science and methods; cultivate senior compound elite master the ability to engage in the project management and decision-making process in the field of domestic and international engineering construction.

Cultivation Requirements:Master the basic knowledge of engineering management, receive training of project management; master the basic ability to engage in project management.

【International Economics and Trade】

Cultivation Goals:To cultivate high-level and interdisciplinary talents who are familiar with rules and practices of the international trade, as well as knowledge of economics, trade, law and management.

Cultivation Requirements:Students in this major will mainly learn basic theories and knowledge’s of the Marxian economics, international economics and international trade, accept basic training of economics and management, and they will be equipped with basic abilities of theory analysis and practice.

Major Courses: political economics, Western economics, international economics, econometrics, introduction to the world economy, theory and practice of international trade, international finance, international settlements, money and banking, finance, accounting, statistics.

【Logistics Management】

【Energy Economy】

Cultivation Goals:dedicated in cultivate students that will serve the economic construction and social development at the provincial and national level with proficient theoretical and practical skills related in coal industry and will focus on the research in compound energy economy.

Cultivation Requirements:(1) Knowledge: require students to master the basic knowledge of energy (coal) technology, systematic knowledge about the theory and methods of economics and management. (2) ability: master the ability to integrate coal-related technology and economic management theory ; familiar with domestic and international energy-related policies, have the ability of energy economic analysis, forecasting and management; master a foreign language with a certain level of listening, speaking, reading and writing ability; proficient in energy and economic management related to information technology, and competent to works in enterprises, government agencies, research institutes and independent entrepreneurship etc. (3) personal quality: have a correct outlook on world, life and value; have a high level of energy economic analysis and forecast; love the professional work; have a good professional ethics and dedication; familiar with energy and economic policies home and abroad; have a good team spirit and communication skills.
