From November 5th to November 8th, at the invitation of the college of mining engineering, professor Y.P. Chugh from Southern Illinois University made 4 academic reports entitled "Ground Control for Mine Planing, Designing, and Safety" in the academic lecture hall on the second floor of the mining building in Huyu campus for 4 consecutive days, and more than 100 teachers and students heard the reports.
Professor Chugh introduced the method and technics of the room-pillar mining and longwall mining in America, as well as the mine pressure, surface subsidence and control, roadway design and support, and coal seam group mining in the mining process. Professor Chugh also conducted extensive exchanges and interactions with teachers and students based on relevant content and domestic and foreign research. These lecture series enable teachers and students to have a better understanding of the advanced technology of room pillar mining and longwall mining in the United States, as well as a deeper understanding of the problems brought about by modern mining activities and their corresponding solutions and other cutting-edge knowledge. At the same time, it is of great significance for the teachers and students to know their own scientific research inadequacy and gap, and enhance the consciousness of innovation.
As a doctor of Pennsylvania State University, a professor of Southern Illinois University, a director of the American Association of Inventors, and a discipline leader, professor Chugh has been selected as one of China's overseas outstanding professors, and has cultivated a large number of high-end scholars for China's mining industry. His research directions include mining engineering, rock mechanics and rock control, mining subsidence, filling materials and fly ash utilization. His research achievements have won the highest contribution award of Illinois mining research institute, the outstanding contribution award of American rock mechanics, the Fulbright senior expert award and other awards.
