Recently, the fourth IEEE Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration was held in Wuhan. The conference was jointly sponsored by IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, Wuhan University and Tsinghua University. Shu Yinbiao, chairman of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), chairman of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, presided over the conference. Professor Sun Hongbin, vice president of TYUT, was awarded the first Energy Internet Pioneer Award in recognition of his leadership contribution to promote the development of energy Internet in IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES).

Zhou Xiaoxin, academician of IEEE fellow, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the honorary president of China Electric Power Research Institute, presented the first Energy Internet Pioneer Award to Professor Sun Hongbin and read out the Award words: "In recent years, we have witnessed Professor Sun Hongbin's outstanding leadership in scientific and technological innovation, institution establishment and conference organization to promote the development of energy Internet. In 2015, he initiated and organized the "Energy Internet" Xiangshan Science Conference, which was recognized as a milestone in the development of energy Internet technology in China. He proposed the Unified Energy Circuit Theory and led his research team to develop the first Integrated Energy Management system (IEMs). In 2017, the IEEE Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration was founded under his influence, which has become the flagship conference in the field of energy Internet. In 2020, he published the monograph "Energy Internet" that has been reprinted nine times in the past half a year. The book has sold more than 10000 copies sold, leaving a significant academic and industrial impact. In June 2020, he promoted the establishment of the Energy Internet Coordination Committee (EICC) and served as the first chairman, which is the first committee initiated by Chinese scholars in the history of IEEE PES. It is widely acknowledged that Professor Sun Hongbin has played an important role in promoting the development of energy Internet.

It is reported that the Energy Internet Pioneer Award is firstly set up by IEEE EI². It aims to encourage scholars who have made pioneering contributions to the energy Internet worldwide, so as to promote the development of this emerging cross-discipline. At most one person will be recognized in each session. The IEEE PES Energy Internet Coordination Committee will solicit nominations from around the world, and the IEEE EI² International Award Committee will vote to determine the winner according to the nomination. Finally, the awardee will be announced and awarded at the IEEE EI².

This IEEE International Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration (IEEE EI²) is the largest offline academic conference in the field of electric power in the world since the outbreak of the epidemic. A total of 1018 papers were received from 24 countries and regions, and 849 papers were accepted after examined by more than 2000 experts and scholars around the world. The meeting was held through online and offline integration. More than 400 experts and scholars made offline oral reports, and more than 1100 scholars and experts attended the meeting offline.
