TYUT alumna Dr. Bian Jianhua elected as the first Chinese President of IEEE PES

Recently, IEEE PES (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) announced the results of IEEE PES 2019 election. TYUT alumna Dr. Bian Jianhua was elected as the first Chinese President of IEEE PES.

Founded in 1884, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is the most famous international organization related to electrical technology, with over 400,000 members in more than 160 countries. IEEE is dedicated to the development and research of electrical, electronic, computer engineering and science-related fields. It has developed into an influential international academic organization. IEEE PES, the IEEE sub-division on power and energy, is dedicated to the application of relevant technologies to improve the security, reliability and economy of power system operation.

Dr. Bian Jianhua graduated from College of Electrical Engineering at TYUT and is an outstanding alumna of TYUT. She is a pioneer and leader in the energy and power industry. She worked for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the North American Electric Reliability Commission (NERC). She is also a senior consultant to Westinghouse Electric Corp and a senior power expert at ERCOT and PJM. Under the leadership of Dr. Bian, who has been secretary general of IEEE PES since 2016, a total of 18 industry-wide reliability indicators have been established to determine the reliability, sufficiency, and associated risks of power grids. She has published more than 70 papers in IEEE and other prestigious international conferences and journals, and won the 2014 PES Wanda Reder Pioneer in Power Award for her technical achievements.
