2025/05/17 07:00:00

On the afternoon of May 16, an online working meeting between Taiyuan University of Technology and Saint Petersburg Mining University of Russia was held in Conference Room 1 on the fourth floor of the Administrative Building of Mingxiang Campus. Attendees included Evgeniy Lyubin, SPMU Vice Rector for International Affairs; Marat Leonidovich Rudakov, SPMU Vice Rector for Special Projects; and Sang Shengbo, TYUT Vice President. Also present were Oleg Kazanin, Dean of the SPMU Mining Faculty; teachers Valentin Morenov and Li Yunpeng; as well as heads of the International Cooperation Department, the Graduate School, and the College of Mining Engineering at TYUT.

At the meeting, Sang reviewed the fruitful achievements since the establishment of the partnership between the two universities in 2015. He highly commended the performance of the 11 teachers and students recently dispatched by SPMU for a nearly two-month exchange program at TYUT—the first such delegation in recent years. He also expressed strong anticipation for leading a delegation to visit SPMU on May 26. Sang emphasized the hope that both universities would advance the formation of a joint working group composed of responsible personnel from relevant departments and disciplinary experts. This group would further implement the international cooperation agreement signed under the witness of provincial leaders in May 2024, continuously deepen the collaborative relationship, enhance teaching and research capabilities as well as international influence, and elevate the partnership to new heights.

Lyubin stated that both TYUT and SPMU have a strong desire to expand practical cooperation. He indicated that SPMU is highly attentive to the performance of the currently dispatched teachers and students and looks forward to welcoming 20 teachers and students from TYUT in the summer program this year. He mentioned that, as Russia is currently in a period of deepening higher education reform, there is broad potential for cooperation in areas such as practical talent cultivation and deep mining technology. Lyubin expressed hope that the two universities could learn from each other in cultivating innovative talents with strong practical abilities and conducting joint research. He fully endorsed Sang’s proposal regarding the working content of the joint working group and suggested promptly initiating efficient and practical discussions to generate more consensus and outcomes, thereby promoting mutual development.

Rudakov similarly expressed the willingness to deepen practical cooperation between the two universities. He hopes that both sides can quickly develop a specific cooperation plan for 2025–2026, engaging in more specialized areas that reflect the urgent needs of Russia’s mining industry and align with Shanxi Province’s comprehensive reform of energy revolution. In particular, he looks forward to establishing new models of cooperation in intelligent technologies for deep mineral mining, smart mines, and green mine construction, opening a new chapter in development.

In conclusion, Sang emphasized that this working meeting marks the entry of the two universities’ cooperation into an institutionalized and project-based new phase. He requested that relevant departments at TYUT promptly promote implementation and form a specific cooperation framework for the joint working group. This will lay a solid foundation for in-depth discussions on specific collaboration details and finalizing cooperation plans during TYUT’s delegation’s visit to SPMU. He expressed hope that both universities would work together for mutual benefit, win-win outcomes, and common development, contributing to implementing the joint statement on further deepening the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era.
