Dr. Javed Iqbal, a post-doctoral researcher at Key Laboratory of Mountain Hazards and Surface Processes delivered a lecture themed Landslide hazards along Karakorum Highway and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in North-Pakistan on March 04, 2019 at 15:00 PM in the Department of Earth Science at Taiyuan University of Technology.
The main objective of this study is to identify and investigate the landslides in Northern Pakistan along Karakoram Highway (KKH) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to produce a landslide susceptibility map using GIS and remote sensing technology. A comprehensive landslides inventory of over 1000 landslides as well as several thematic layers are prepared using satellite images, DEM and field investigations. Subsequently, these thematic data layers are analyzed by statistical bivariate models to generate the landslide susceptibility maps which claims to have great importance to the policy makers and the engineers for highway construction as well as the mega dams construction projects.
