From Mobile Electronics to Portable Analytics: Disc player, Smartphone, and Paper Strips

In September 2001, professor Yu was employed by Simon Fraser University in Canada. In September 2005 and September 2009, he was promoted to associate professor and professor respectively. He has published more than 140 high quality research papers, including over 10 papers as the first author or corresponding author in top international journals of chemistry (including Acc. Chem. Res.; Chem. Soc. Rev.; J. Am. Chem. Soc.; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.).

He has published nearly 100 papers in the internationally renowned journals of analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and biomolecular sensing at American Chemical Society, and his research results have been rated as the hot articles in the current period and reported by relevant media for many times.

He has applied for 4 American/international patents (3 of which have been approved), and have been invited to give more than 140 lectures on international academic conferences and institutions of higher learning/scientific research. He has undertaken and completed more than 20 Canadian Natural Science and Life Science Funds, and presided over 2 general projects of National Natural Science Fund and 3 provincial and ministerial projects.

Professor Yu won the Fred Beamish Award from Canadian Chemical Society in 2004, the visiting professor award of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, W. Lash Miller prize from Canadian Branch of the Electrochemical Society in America, Tajima prize from International Society of Electrochemistry, and W. A. E. McBryde Medal from Chemical Institute of Canada which was awarded to only one young scientist each year with outstanding achievements in the fields of analytical chemistry and applied chemistry.
