The Team of Prof. Kou Ziming Won the Second Prize of Technical Innovation Award for 2018 Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution

On January 25th, the website of Ministry of Education officially announced the award list for 2018 Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution (Science and Technology) which is significant for all colleges and universities in China, aiming to reward individuals and organizations who have achieved outstanding results in science and technology. Only 120 colleges and universities throughout the country were on the list as the first completed unit. Prof. Kou Ziming received the second prize of technical innovation for his outstanding work in the key technology and equipment project for capture and replace of the broken conveyor belt.

The awarded project belongs to the field of mining mechanical engineering and safety engineering. In the long-distance, high-speed, heavy-duty and inclined transportation, belts with certain tension not only carries all materials, but also interacts with other transmission components such as rollers to generate unreasonable periodic alternating stress and strain. When unreasonable start-stop controls, sudden power failure and emergent braking happen, it is easy to cause damage to belts and lead to even serious accidents such as broken belts brought about by the impact load and gravity potential energy of materials. In order to solve these problems, Prof. Kou Ziming's team has made a breakthrough in start-stop automatic control and brake reliability of belt conveyor, identification and effective capture of the broken belt during operation, and safe efficient and continuous operation during the replacement of broken belt, by applying the theory and method of system dynamics, generalized optimization, fuzzy control, etc..

The achievement includes 17 independent intellectual property rights, 7 national invention patents, 10 software copyrights, 8 doctoral and master's theses and more than 10 academic papers. The main technical inventions are as follows: the fundamental vibration control scheme for limiting the elastic vibration of the belt conveyor, the key technology and equipment for catching broken conveyor belts, the technologyof modular stepping belt retracting, and crawler belt replacement process and technical equipment for angle, thickness adaptive control and surface backup brake. The corresponding products have achieved safe and efficient operation in more than 40 cases. The production efficiency has increased by more than 60%, bringing significant economic and social benefits. In the research and development of the project, the combination of the production demand, scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation have been realized, promoting the scientific and technological progress of relevant industries, and the internationalization of scientific and technological activities.
