At the invitation of Saint Petersburg Mining University in Russia and Newcastle University in the UK, Vice President Sang Shengbo led a delegation to Russia and the UK for cooperative exchange visits from May 25 to June 1.
On May 26, the delegation visited Saint Petersburg Mining University, where Rector Litvinenko warmly received them. Sang Shengbo conveyed greetings from the leadership of Taiyuan University of Technology and noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the partnership between the two institutions. He expressed hopes for greater progress in the new phase of collaboration. Litvinenko introduced the university’s advancements in energy engineering and proposed deepening practical cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research. The delegation also toured key laboratories and training facilities.
On May 27, the delegation attended the 6th Annual Conference of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities in Moscow, engaging in discussions with representatives from institutions such as Bauman Moscow State Technical University. In the afternoon, the delegation held talks with Vice Rector Maksimenko Alexander of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Both sides agreed to revise and upgrade the Memorandum of Understanding to expand collaborative fields.
On May 28, the delegation visited the Moscow Aviation Institute and met with Yury Ravikovich, Acting vice-rector for innovation affairs. Sang Shengbo introduced the development of disciplines such as aerospace and mechanics at Taiyuan University of Technology and proposed establishing a regular exchange mechanism to promote talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation.
On May 29, the delegation visited Newcastle University in the UK and held discussions with Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Chris Whitehead and others. Both sides reviewed over 40 years of collaboration and explored ways to deepen cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research, finalizing specific plans.
On May 30, the delegation visited the Chinese Consulate-General in Manchester and met with Education Counsellor Liang Yan. Sang Shengbo reported on the cooperative achievements with UK universities, and Liang Yan pledged increased support to create favorable conditions for further collaboration.
This visit was a significant initiative by Taiyuan University of Technology to deepen international cooperation and enhance the globalization of its “Double First-Class” initiative. The delegation successfully accomplished its mission of promoting mutual development, friendly exchanges, and win-win outcomes, which will play a vital role in advancing high-quality international innovation partnerships.
Representatives from the International Cooperation Division and the College of Electrical and Power Engineering accompanied the delegation on the visit.
