On the afternoon of May 29, in the key match of the fourth round in the bottom half of the men’s 32-team national tournament at the 28th Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBAL) Division I, the TYUT men’s basketball team showed great grit and determination, defeating the traditionally strong Peking University men’s team 89:68 — a dominant 21-point victory — and storming into the national quarterfinals.

Throughout the game, TYUT dominated both offensively and defensively, with multiple players stepping up. Backcourt core Cao Zhihao was on fire, recording a brilliant double-double of 24 points and 10 assists. He was unstoppable driving and shooting, hitting several clutch three-pointers and fast-break layups, serving as the team's most reliable perimeter scorer and playmaker. Yang Zihao contributed 19 points and 7 assists, showcasing strong finishes at the rim, three-point shooting, and creative passes to set up teammates. The “dynamic duo” connected seamlessly throughout the game. Yang Hulong added 19 points and 7 rebounds, Duan Chengguo recorded 14 points and 6 rebounds, while Liu Shaowei, Meng Fansen, Tian Huming, and others also made positive contributions on both ends. The entire team displayed the hallmark toughness of “TYUT basketball”.
This victory over Peking University, a team with deep historical strength, is not only a testament to the TYUT team’s hard work in daily training but also a demonstration of the tenacious fighting spirit of TYUT students. The win has given the team a major confidence boost as they secure their place in the national top eight.

The CUBAL Men’s 32-Team Tournament is being held in Yichang, Hubei Province, from May 26 to 30. In the opening game on May 26, TYUT defeated Southwest University 95:73. On May 27, they beat Wuhan University of Technology 103:89. With the victory over Peking University, TYUT advanced to the top eight with a perfect 3-0 record in the 32-team stage.
According to the draw results, TYUT will face Peking University again in the quarterfinals. The national top eight is not the end, but a new starting point.
