TYUT Holds 2026 Graduation Ceremony

On the evening of June 14, the 2026 Graduation Ceremony of Taiyuan University of Technology was held at the square in front of the library on the Mingxiang Campus.

University leaders and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering—Shen Xingquan, Sun Hongbin, Zhao Yangsheng, Xiao Liantuan, Li Xiaoqian, Ren Xiying, Wang Zhihua, Sang Shengbo, Cheng Yongqiang, and Yang Xiaowei—attended the ceremony. Members of the University Degree Assessment Committee, alumni representatives, heads of functional departments and colleges, faculty and staff representatives, and all 2026 graduating students participated. The ceremony was presided over by Ren Xiying, the Standing Committee Member of the TYUT Party Committee and Vice President.

The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China. Xiao Liantuan, Deputy Secretary of the TYUT Party Committee and Vice President, read out the “Decision on Commending Outstanding Graduates of the Class of 2026”. Among over 11,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral graduates this year, more than 580 were awarded the title of “Outstanding Graduate”. University leaders presented awards to representatives of the outstanding graduates.

Secretary of the TYUT Party Committee Shen Xingquan presented the flag to TYUT’s 28th Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps and presented them with commemorative books. Eleven graduating students with postgraduate recommendation status will go to Xunhua in Qinghai and Aksu in Xinjiang for a one-year voluntary teaching program. In addition, nearly 300 graduates will go to grassroots positions in Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, and other regions.

Vice President Sang Shengbo read out the “Decision of Taiyuan University of Technology on the First Conferment of Doctoral, Master’s, and Bachelor’s Degrees in 2026”. Sun Hongbin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of TYUT, turned the tassels and conferred degree certificates for 11 doctoral graduate representatives. Subsequently, the attending leaders moved to the front to confer degrees on representatives of master’s and undergraduate graduates, respectively.

He Li, an undergraduate representative from Class 2201 of the Applied Physics major at the College of Physics and Optoelectronics, delivered a speech. Yang Xiaohui, an alumni representative from the Class of 2001 majoring in Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering and currently Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of PowerChina Beijing Engineering Corporation Limited, spoke as an outstanding alumni representative.

Sun Hongbin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of TYUT, delivered a commencement address titled “Temper Resilience, Venture to Sea and Mountain”. He extended congratulations to all graduates and expressed gratitude to the faculty and staff, as well as to the students’ families. Citing the story of doctoral student Wang Haigang, he encouraged graduates to persist in lifelong learning, stay active and passionate, and cherish friendships with classmates and teachers, while upholding the university motto of “Veritas & Ingenium” (Seeking Truth and Pursuing Innovation).

The ceremony concluded with all attendees singing the school song of Taiyuan University of Technology.
